Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday, vehemently denied claims that he had expressed willingness to be the running mate of a particular candidate.
Obi made this clarification in a post on his X account, following a recent interview with News Central TV, where he discussed his presidential ambitions, the Labour Party and Nigeria’s economic situation.
During the interview, Obi stressed his openness to working with other presidential candidates, as long as their intentions are not centered on capturing the country.
However, he suspected that some people had twisted his words, thereby misinterpreting his stance on the issue.
“I have been inundated with calls and concerns regarding the interview I gave to News Central TV… Some fifth columnists have resorted to propaganda, deliberately distorting the narrative,” Obi said.

He reiterated his commitment to partner with those who share his vision to advance Nigeria’s progress, and stressed that he remains dedicated to the Labour Party.
Obi also emphasized that he had never expressed his willingness to become vice president to anyone and considered the statement to be a mere lie.
“My statement was unequivocal, and I am truly shocked at the misinterpretation of my words… I have consistently stated that I am open to working with those who are committed to building a new Nigeria,” Obi said.
The former governor expressed his determination to see Nigeria succeed, reiterating that he has no desire to become president. Obi also highlighted his continued contributions to Nigeria’s progress, even outside of office.
“My commitment to Nigeria remains steadfast, and I even believe that it is possible to contribute to its progress without holding any office as I have done,” he concluded.
