Leading politician and philanthropist, Peter Obi, has extended financial support totaling $20 million to the College of Nursing Sciences, Mbano, Imo State.
The African Democratic Congress (ADC) presidential favorite, who had previously donated $10 million to the College, made another donation of $10 million during his return visit on Thursday, March 26, 2026.
Speaking during Obi’s visit on Thursday, the Provost of the institution, Rev. Sr. Dr. M. Laurette Madu, expressed deep gratitude to the former governor of Anambra State for his continuous support. He revealed that Obi’s previous donation was used to install solar-powered electricity and a transformer to improve power supply within the institution, stressing that the intervention has significantly improved teaching and administrative activities. She, however, added that the increase in demand for infrastructure and student population has continued to increase the college’s electricity needs.
Rev. Sister Madu described Obi’s contributions as impactful and timely, noting that staff and students deeply appreciate her generosity and abiding interest in the institution’s progress.
In his response, Obi reiterated his consistent position on investing in critical sectors such as education, healthcare and poverty reduction. He stressed that Nigeria’s development depends on prioritizing human capital and building institutions that empower youth.
The Labor Party’s 2023 presidential candidate urged leaders at all levels to channel resources towards productive initiatives that improve lives, rather than consumption, underlining that support for educational institutions remains one of the most effective ways to secure the nation’s future.
Obi also encouraged students to remain focused on their studies and prepare to contribute meaningfully to society, assuring the College of his continued goodwill.
The visit was characterized by the enthusiasm of students and staff, who welcomed Obi warmly and praised his ongoing support of education.
