Labor Party Presidential Candidate, Bpk. Peter Obi, has expressed deep concern over the increasing security crisis at Marte, the state of Borno, described it as a national emergency that demanded immediate federal attention.
In a statement distributed in the official handle of X (previously Twitter) on Tuesday, Obi condemned the safety of life and property that worsened in the region, calling for urgent and coordinated actions from the federal government. His comments followed the report of rebel activities and mass transfer in the area.
Obi praised the Governor of the State Borno, Prof. Babagana Zulum, for his unfortunate commitment to the people, especially his new decision to move to the problematic Marte axis in the midst of the ongoing threat.
“Governor Zulum, by choosing to spend the night in a threatened city, once again shows what the leadership should be like: now, proactive, and centered on people,” Obi wrote. “His courage is not only for praise; it is a challenge for those who are authorized to match words with decisive actions.”

Obi warned that Marte was on the verge of destruction and noted that more than 300 communities were currently exposed to rebel attacks, with more than 20,000 residents who were moved once more.
“This is not just a number,” he emphasized. “They are family, children, and communities whose hopes are dependent on the thread.”
Citing concerns raised by Governor Zulum about the rise of terrorist groups around Lake Chad and Mandara’s hills, Obi stressed that Nigeria could not continue the delayed response cycle and far from the governance in the face of this terrible threat.
He asked the federal government to strengthen military presence in the region and provide tangible support to those who were moved internally (IDP), warning that failure to act would reflect the failure to protect the essence of the Nigerian state.
“Our security forces need reinforcements. Our displaced citizens need protection, not promises,” Obi said. “If we fail to protect Borno, we fail the idea of ββNigeria itself.”
He concluded by reaffirming his long -lasted belief that Nigeria must be led by compassion, competence, and courage.
“This is not about politics. This is about people. This is about protecting the souls of our nation,” he said. “Let’s act quickly, firmly, and fairly. Nigeria is only possible.”
