Police arrest 11 protesters in Niger

Police officers in Niger have arrested 11 violent protesters for allegedly trying to burn down the Tafa local government secretariat during the ongoing #EndBadGovernance protests in the state.

The state police spokesman, Waisu Abiodun, disclosed this to journalists on Thursday in Minna.

He said the rioters burned part of the secretariat and looted valuables.

Abiodun said: “At about 9:30 am, some hoodlums from Tafa area, Kagarko Local Government Area, Kaduna State and Hayin-Diko, Gurara Council Area, Niger stormed the secretariat located at Sabon-Wuse along the Abuja-Kaduna expressway.

“The rioters damaged and burned part of the secretariat, burned two vehicles, and damaged two others.

“They also looted valuables inside the secretariat office. Police and other security forces arrived at the scene.

“11 perpetrators were arrested with various dangerous weapons, including firearms, while others were dispersed from the scene and some looted items were recovered.”
