Police arrest three in connection with ATM card swap in Kaduna

Police officers in Kaduna have arrested three suspects involved in an Automated Teller Machine (ATM) swap in the state.

Police also found 54 ATM cards and Point of Sale (POS) machines.

State police command spokesman Mansir Hassan confirmed the development in a statement on Friday in Kaduna.

He named the suspects as Umar Ya’u, Abdullahi Bukar, and Hussaini Sulaiman.

The spokesman added that the suspects were known to hang around ATMs and pretend to help people who were not familiar with the machines.

He said: “On August 27, at around 11pm, based on credible intelligence information, police officers arrested three suspects involved in ATM card swap fraud through a well-coordinated operation.

“The suspects are known to hang around ATMs and pretend to help people who are not familiar with the machines.

“By doing so, they fraudulently swapped the victim’s ATM card, allowing them to make unauthorized withdrawals.

“The suspects seized 54 ATM cards from various banks and a PoS machine. They confessed to obtaining the funds by defrauding many victims in Kano, Kaduna and Zaria.”
