Police officers in Rivers have arrested three students of the University of Port Harcourt over alleged links to cult clashes in the state.
Several people suffered machete wounds during violent clashes between two factions of a Viking cult group on Thursday.
The president of the university’s Student Union Government, Martins Azirindu, confirmed the incident in a statement on Friday.
He asked that security patrols at the institution be increased.
He said: “A particular cult group known as the Viking Brotherhood has two factions. And one particular faction is against the other faction.
“But while they were still facing each other, the school security, the police, and the Vice Chancellor came. So most of them ran away and about three people were arrested.
“I think those people may have gotten through the fence to get the weapons that were used. I would advise school security to do regular checks and patrols to check for some of these things.”
