Police arrested three men on suspicion of breach of peace in Oyo

Police on Thursday arraigned three men at the Chief Iyaganku Court in Ibadan, Oyo State, for alleged breach of peace in their village.

The defendants – Sarafa Ogunkeye (40), Gafari Ogunkeye (47), and Kamoru Lamidi (57) – were charged with four counts of conspiracy, being armed in public, threatening violence and breach of the peace.

However, the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Defense lawyer, Mr Ola Olaniyi, then asked the court to grant bail to his client on liberal terms.

Magistrate MM Olagbenro granted bail to the defendants in the sum of N200,000 each, with one surety each of the same amount.

He adjourned the case until November 20 for hearing.

Earlier, the prosecutor, ASP Foluke Adedosu, told the court that the defendants allegedly conspired to commit the offence.

Adedosu said the defendants on September 17 at Bosere Village via Ojongbodu, Oyo City, allegedly went around public places carrying glasses, axes and knives.

He added that the offense is contrary to Articles 80, 86, 249 and 516 of the 2000 Oyo State Criminal Code.
