Police foil attack on Bank Of America in Paris – THIS UPDATE

By Ayo Kehinde

A suspected terrorist attempt failed Saturday morning in Paris after police intercepted and neutralized an improvised explosive device outside a Bank of America building, quickly arresting a suspect and preventing what authorities say could have been a serious attack.

The incident occurred in the capital’s exclusive 8th arrondissement, where vigilant officers spotted two people carrying a shopping bag near the American Bank headquarters.

Authorities said one of the suspects was attempting to ignite the device using a lighter when police intervened and broke up the plot.

The suspect was arrested around 3.25am local time, effectively averting the threat. His accomplice fled the scene and is currently being chased by law enforcement.

Preliminary investigations revealed that the device consisted of a five-litre container filled with an unidentified liquid, together with an explosive charge containing approximately 650 grams of powder. The device was secured and handed over to forensic experts for a detailed examination, ensuring there was no further danger to the public.

In a worrying development, the detained suspect reportedly told investigators he had been recruited through the social media platform Snapchat and paid €600 to carry out the act. He also claimed to have been transported to the location by another individual, indicating the possibility of a larger network.

France’s national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office opened an in-depth investigation into the incident, looking into alleged crimes including attempted destruction by dangerous means, possession and transportation of explosive materials and involvement in a terrorist criminal association.

Reacting to this development, Interior Minister Laurent Nunez praised the police’s quick and professional response, stressing that their intervention prevented a potentially devastating attack. He stressed that security forces remain on high alert amid evolving global tensions.

French authorities have stepped up security around sensitive locations in recent months, particularly sites linked to US interests and other potential targets. The success of Saturday’s operation highlights the effectiveness of these measures and strengthens public confidence in the country’s security framework.

A spokesperson for Bank of America confirmed that the institution is cooperating fully with authorities as the investigation continues.
