Police officers on Thursday killed nine suspected kidnappers in a gunfight in the state’s Ladipo area.
Spokesperson of the state police command, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed this to journalists at the command headquarters in Ikeja on Friday.
He said: “It gives us great pleasure to inform the people of the state that the Lagos State Police Command under the leadership of CP Adegoke Fayoade, recorded a breakthrough on Thursday, July 4.
“Our intelligence gathering assets generated highly credible and actionable intelligence about a dangerous and notorious kidnap gang planning to kidnap some high profile individuals in Lagos.
“After receiving this information about two weeks ago, CP Fayoade ordered the Commando Tactical Team to start working on it.
“Officers followed up carefully, monitored closely, and were able to confirm that the gang would carry out an attack on Thursday in Ladipo.
“With the benefit of this information, we were able to proactively prepare ourselves to face them and more or less ambush them.

“The kidnappers who were caught red-handed did not surrender easily when they were involved in a gunfight with the police.
“They, of course, succumbed to the superior firepower of the police. Nine of them were neutralized while two others escaped with gunshot wounds.”
The spokesman added that four AK-47 rifles, four locally made semi-automatic pistols, nine AK47 magazines, three walkie-talkies, one Point Of Sale machine and a loudspeaker were seized from the suspects.
“Officers also confiscated two operational vehicles: one black Toyota 4Runner and one blue Lexus RX350.
“The investigation is still ongoing to catch the suspect who fled,” he said.
