Police NABS 17 Cultist suspects for the killing of two graduates from the University of Delta del Niger

Yenagoa (basic reporter) Command of the Bayelsa of the Nigerian police on Friday 9 May 2025 arrested seventeen (17) Cultist suspicions in relation to the killing of two graduates from the University of Delta del Niger, Amassoma, in what the authorities have described as a renewed wave of worship violence. They were arrested along the Tombia-Amassoma Road.

Among those arrested there were four suspicions of the internet scammers, popularly known as Yahoo Boys, who are presumed to have sponsored the murders.

A police source reported to the main journalists that the arrests were carried out by the Rapid Response Squad (RS) officers led by Bishop CSP Elemide. The suspicions were intercepted in a arrest and research checkpoint mounted by the RR.

According to reports, the RRS had received a police radio notice on the murders, which took place in the Gbarantu area off the coast of Amassoma Road. By acting quickly, the team according to what was reported created a roadblock and managed to intercept a Suzuki minibus that transported the suspicions.

“We saw over 13 tight guys inside blood stains on some of them and colored machetes of blood. The police suspected that they were the ones who had carried out the murder,” said the officer.

“During the interrogation, the police discovered that they went to the crime scene in two mini buses. One developed a flaw while they were fleeing and decided to abandon it and use a minibus.”

Another police source revealed that the suspicions are believed to be members of the notorious group of worship of the Vikings and that four suspicious Yahoo boys presumably sponsored the murders of the two university graduates.

When he was contacted for confirmation, the spokesman for the Bayelsa State Police Command, Musa Mohammed, recognized that the officers had been carried out the arrests of the quick response team (RS).

He added that investigations are underway to determine the level of involvement of each suspicion.

“Yes, some important arrests have been made and the command is investigating,” he said.

A relationship emerged that suggests that the two assassinated graduates were members of the Neo Black Movement, commonly known as Black Ascia (Aye). However, other sources claim to belong to the Bobos cult group.

In the wake of the murders, the members of the Vikings worship group throughout the state of Bayelsa, in particular in State University and in other secondary and tertiary institutions, reported to hide, fearing possible reprisals.

Fun residents and applicants in various bars and salons in Yenagoa, the state capital, reported that they had noticed unusual movements. Some said that groups of threatening young people seemed to go hunting for rival worship, increasing the fears of further violence

Over the past week, several parts of Yenagoa experienced sporadic shots, considered the result of clashes between rival worship groups.

On Sunday morning, the famous Ultra-Modern Swali market, an important shopping center, was thrown into chaos following a violent clash between two rival worship gangs. According to reports, the gun duel led to the death of a person.

While some police sources have attributed the shots to the agents who pursue cultural suspicions that travel in a vehicle with covered plates, others insisted on the fact that it was another clash among rival groups.

A high police officer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, assured that the police commissioner of the state of Bayelsa, Francis Idu, and his team, are working tirelessly to curb growing violence and restore calm throughout the state.

“We are seriously working to end these nefarious clashes of worship and bring the people involved in justice. We have made many arrests and the state government has also supported and warned the politicians to avoid influencing the police investigations. The arrested will have to face the law,” said the police officer.
