Polytechnic teachers threaten Dalay’s payment in paying salaries

The Union of Polytecnics (Asup) of academic staff threatened to start a strike at national level if the federal government has not faced the delay in paying the teachers’ salaries in the country

President of Asup, his partner Shammah Kpanja, in a statement he said that the situation subjected his members to mental torture

He said: “Our union observed a trend in the delay in paying staff salaries between federal tertiary institutions in the country in the last eight months.

“This new tendency to submit the staff of these institutions to the mental torture of periods of permanent permanent uncertainty concerning the release of the Mistorially devalued mixing now called salaries coincides with the transition of the tertiary institutions from the Ippis payment platform to the Gifmis platform.”

Comrade Shammah blames the general accounting office of the Federation (AGF) which attributes the same delay to the financing of different institutions for salaries for eight months.

He said the union constantly complained formally with the AGF office before without the desired improvement leaving the staff of several federal polytechnics in difficulty at the end of each month.

According to him, “we are led to believe that the only plausible reason for this deliberate torture is the low value attributed to the academic community by the government.

“This is because both payment platforms are hosted by the General Accounting Office of the Federation and it is expected that the transition between the payment platforms and the use of information essentially themselves on wages will be fluid and impeccable.

“Eight months are too long a trial period for the transition and it is only a government that places a low value on education will deal with the staff of the tertiary education institutes in this way.

“Our union condemns this immersed treatment that is taken into consideration for the workers of the tertiary institutions, in particular in a difficult economy such as ours. The workers of different tertiary institutions have been transformed into beggars at the end of each month, with the useless salaries that serve only the service debts supported during each month.

“It is equally shameful that while the academic community is punished with this shortage, political leaders continue to entertain themselves in senseless opulence and activity of capture of power for the next elections. This is unfortunate and symptomatic of a terminal sick nation.

“With this we renew our requests for issuing the salaries of June 2025 to the tertiary institutions in the country without further delays and a departure from this new trend of delay in wage payments in the coming months.

“This call is made in the overall interest of the fragile industrial harmony in the tertiary education sector, in particular the Polytechnics as no union will continue to see its members cross these overflowing experiences every month while the government continues to undermine its contractual obligations towards workers at the end of each month.

“Our union could be forced to direct its members to stay away from all the polythecs affected if the situation does not improve in the next few days and is supported the same until the salaries are paid; while adopting the same model at the end of each month in the future”.
