Pope Leo XIV to celebrate the first great mass on Friday

The recent elected Pope Leo XIV will celebrate his first great mass as head of the Catholic Church on Friday in the Sistine Chapel, according to the Vatican.

The spokesman for the Vatican Matteo Bruni told journalists that the Pope will also appear on the balcony of the Basilica of San Pietro for the prayer at the Mezzogiorno on Sunday.

Chicago Robert Francis Prevost Cardinal was elected on Thursday after four voting rounds as the new head of the Catholic Church after just 24 hours of conclave in the Sistine Chapel.

Cardinal Prevost becomes the first Pope ever from the United States.

Previously he served in the Vatican as a Curiale Cardinal, at the head of the important dicastery – actually the Ministry – responsible for bishops all over the world.
