A group of former presidential presidents pursuant to the deceased Congress for the change of progressives (CPC), one of the Legacy parties who joined the government of the Judgment All Progressives Congress (APC), expressed profound concerns about what described as the marginalization of the CPC elements.
The forum, in a public declaration issued in Abuja, complained of the internal divisions that afflict the CPC block and warned that the proliferation of voices that claims to speak for the blockade underlines only a lack of consistent leadership and inclusiveness within the party.
“We members of the Forum of State Presidents of the deceased Congress for the change of progressives (CPC), we observed with discomfort in the way the CPC block in the sentence of all progress (APC) has become the subject of political controversies in recent times”, reads the declaration.
The former presidents have declared that their contributions to the formation and electoral victories of the APC were not equally rewarded or through the government’s appointments nor the inclusion in the party structures both nationally and subnational levels.
However, they moved away from recent defections by some former CPC members, describing these actions as a personal democratic choice.
According to the forum, most of its members remain faithful to the APC and the former president Muhammadu Buhari.
“Although we do not revive those who have decided to abandon APC, we want to declare without any ambiguity that, except for some of us, we are unanimous in our decision to stay in the party with our principal, the former president Muhammadu Buhari”, observed the forum.
They also committed themselves to supporting the current administration led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and urged the party leadership to embrace the inclusiveness and give all the parties concerned a sense of belonging.
In a direct appeal to the president, the forum drew attention to the growing national insecurity and the worsening of economic conditions, warning that these represent existential threats to citizens.
“It is therefore important that the president, APC governments at all levels and party leadership give these challenges the desired attention. These governance issues, rather than the 2027 elections, constitute our priority,” concluded the declaration.
The forum urged the unit inside the party and prayed for the divine guide for the leaders of the nation.
