In a heartfelt appeal to prominent figures of the Mbaise community, Professor Eddie Oparaoji asked for peace and reconciliation in the midst of growing tensions between Ndi Ezeji Mbaise and Ezuruezu Mbaise on the Iriji Mbaise festival.
In a message addressed to the respected leaders of the community, including Kachi Nwoga, Steve Onu and Austin, prof. Oparaoji expressed profound concern for the current conflict, which poured into the Rotonda table forum of Mbaise (MPR) policy, a platform dedicated to promoting dialogue and development between the daughters of Mbaise.
“As members of our esteemed community, it is essential to give priority to harmony and understanding of the conflict,” said Oparaoji. “Disagreements are a natural part of any community, but the way we face them speaks of volumes of our commitment for unity.”
Professor Operaoji urged both sides to put aside their differences and reflect on the wider interest of the nation of Mbaise, underlining the need for a united front in preserving the cultural heritage that binds the people of Mbaise together.
To this end, MPR’s leadership has announced its intention to start peace talks in the next few days, with the aim of promoting dialogue, mutual respect and the lasting reconciliation between the two groups. According to Oparaoji, the goal is “peace broker and establish a way to follow that honors the concerns of all the subjects involved while promoting a spirit of collaboration”.
He expressed optimism on the fact that with open minds and sincere intentions, the community could overcome its differences and give a positive example for future generations.
“I look forward to the possibility of working together for the improvement of Iriji Mbaise and the exaltation of our cultural heritage,” he concluded.
The request for peace comes at a time when the holiness and unity of the traditions of Mbaise are tested by internal disputes and many within the community hope that the reason and reconciliation will prevail.
