On Thursday, the Police Services Commission (PSC) presented a new informer policy aimed at exposing corruption, fraud, sexual harassment and other corrupt practices in the recruitment of officers in the police forces of Nigeria
The Commission, in a declaration, said that the initiative was part of its renewed commitment to disinfect the process of taking and ending decades of rooted corruption that denied the Nigerians qualified the opportunity to serve.
According to PSC, the Nigerians are now encouraged to report cases of corruption, manipulation of results, falsification of credentials, ghost names, imitation during screening, sexual harassment and other non -ethical practices in current and future recruitment exercises.
“The Nigerians are now encouraged to report the solicitation or acceptance of bribes in exchange for recruitment slots or preferential care. A compromised process produces only compromised police officers,” reads the note.
The Commission stressed that politics was in line with the renewed agenda of the hope of President Bola Tinubu, insisting on the fact that police credibility was essential to restore national security and public trust in the police.
“We believe that a credible, professional and reliable police force is the milestone of national security and that the reporting of negligence is a patriotic duty that contributes directly to a safer Nigeria,” he added.
The PSC also ensured full protection informants against intimidation or victimization, as required by the Nigerian laws, committing that any relationship would have been managed with confidentiality and investigated independently.
“All relationships will be treated with the utmost confidentiality. Informators will be protected by victimization, intimidation or retaliation. The era of impunity in the recruitment is over,” the Commission assured.
To facilitate access, the PSC has released four dedicated hotels for complaints – 08065265651, 08059544355, 09159329404 and 0803586677 – and invited citizens to provide details such as the position, date and names of the people involved when they present relationships.
The Commission promised that the decisive disciplinary and legal actions would be undertaken against any official or individual considered guilty of negligence.
By asking for public participation, the PSC concluded: “Your courage can make a difference”.
