PSG claims the UEFA Super Cup after a dramatic return against Tottenham

Paris Saint-Germain raised the first UEFA Super Cup ever on Wednesday, putting Tottenham Hotspur 4-3 to penalties after a dramatic 2-2 draw at the Friuli stadium in Udine, in Italy.

Tottenham seemed ready to claim the trophy in their first competitive game under the new coach Thomas Frank, taking an advantage 2-0 shortly after the interval. Micky Van de Ven opened the markings in the 39th minute and Cristian Romero doubled their advantage three minutes in the second half.

PSG organized a late return thanks to the substitutes Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos. Lee pulled one back to the 85th minute and Ramos headed to the 94th minute equalizer, forcing a penalty.

The shooting began trembling for PSG, with Vitinha who was missing their opening attempt. But goalkeeper Lucas Chevalier made a crucial rescue from Van de Ven, and Mathys Tel has also lost, allowing Nuno Mendes to convert the decisive penalty. For Spurs, Dominic Solanke, Rodrigo Bentancur and Pedro Porro had marked from the point, while Ramos, Ousmano Dembélé and Lee scored for PSG before Mendes had sealed the victory.

The victory marks the first triumph of PSG’s UEFA Super Cup and the fifth trophy that claimed in 2025. It is also a perfect start for the new season for Luis Enrique’s team, which had a low season shortened after the final loss of the Fifa World Cup at Chelsea last month.

On Sunday PSG will kick off their Ligue 1 against Nantes, while Tottenham is preparing to face Burnley in the Premier League Pepri on Saturday.
