Putin accepts the US messenger as a deadline for the termination of Russian hostility with Ukraine close

Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday received a special messenger from the United States, Steve Witkoff, to talk about the ongoing conflict with Ukraine.
The meeting took place a few days before the deadline of President Donald Trump for Moscow to receive a ceasefire in Ukraine or face a broad new sanction.
Russia launched a full scale invasion to neighboring Ukraine in February 2022.

Kremlin announced Witkoff’s visit but did not provide further details.

After years of limited contact between Washington and Moscow because of the war launched by Putin against Ukraine, Witkoff has now visited Russia five times this year. In July, Trump gave Moscow a deadline of 50 days to end the war.
The time line was then shortened to Friday.

The US president threatens a wave of new sanctions if Russia fails to obey.
In the midst of increasingly frustration of Russian attacks that continue to increase on Ukrainian civilians, Trump promised to bring down the “sanctions and maybe tariffs, secondary tariffs” in countries that are still doing business with Moscow, in an effort to strangle their war funds.
