Pyramids FC was crowned Champions of Africa for the first time in their history after beating the Mamlodi Sundowns of South Africa 2-1 in the second stage of the Caf Champions League final.
The Egyptian part sealed the title with an aggregate victory 3-2, following a 1-1 draw in the first stage.
The Moroccan duo Walid El Karti and Mohamed Chibi both started for the pyramids at the stadium of 30 June at Cairo. El Karti played all 90 minutes, while Chibi was replaced in the 88th minute after providing an assist.
The pyramids opened the score in the 23rd minute through Activo Mayel, taking an advantage 1-0 in the break. They doubled their advantage at the beginning of the second half when Ahmed Samy converted a top cross from Chibi to the 56th minute.
Sundowns pulled one back to the 75th minute thanks to a goal by Iqraam Rayners, but it was not enough to prevent the pyramids from claiming their inaugural continental title.
The club based in Cairo, which joined the Egyptian Premier League only in 2014, has now reached the top of African football.
