A report by Naija News said that this was announced on Friday evening by Sowore through its social media handles verified.
The activist also addressed his supporters and supporters live via Facebook shortly after having regained his freedom.
He wrote: “The Nigerian police forces have made it to the requests of the revolutionary Movt, I was released by an unjust, illegal and unjustified detention. However, it is nothing to celebrate, but thanks for not having given up. You have seen everyone the power of Unity #revolutionNow.”
Recall that the police commissioner in charge of the special intervention team, the CP Abayomi Shogunle, had explained the circumstances that surround the continuous possession of the Human Rights and the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC) in the 2023 elections, Omoyel Sowore.
Speaking on Friday, Shogunle had declared that the activist was held in relation to two separate petitions presented against him.
He said: βThe two petitions against Oomoyel Sowore were shown to him in my presence.
“One delimited by the falsification of a police document, which he published online, and we all know the position of the law. It is your duty to provide a source of how you came to the false document. The second petition has to do with cyberbullying.”
“The two petitions were shown to him in the presence of his lawyers. The problem is now that he refused to make a declaration in the presence of his lawyers. He is in the register,” said the CP.
He also explained the legal implications of Sowore’s refusal to provide a declaration, noting that the law has allowed the police to proceed with investigative procedures in such circumstances.
“The same law that gives him the right to remain silent also gives the police the responsibility of some duties to be carried out when someone who has been affirmed of a crime decides not to speak, of which you are also aware,” he said.
“And I think we are professionals and I think the procedure established by the law is followed.”[Naija News]
