The Chamber of Representatives has incriminated 31 ministries, departments and federal agencies (MDA) for financial infringements that involve more than ₦ 103.8 billion and $ 950,912, asking anti -corruption agencies to guarantee the full recovery of the funds badly missed.
This development has followed a motion presented by the Bamidele Salam representative, based on the results of the Committee for Public Pubblices (PAC), which examined the annual reports of the general auditor for the tax years of 2019 and 2020.
The relationships have exposed widespread violations, including unauthorized expenses, innovated revenues, violations of contracts and weak internal controls in various government agencies.
The Chamber adopted the Committee’s recommendations, directing the Commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC), independent corrupt practices and other related crimes (ICPC) and the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS) to take immediate measures to recover funds and guarantee responsibility.
The investigations revealed that various MDAs have engaged in unauthorized expenses, they did not put back the taxes and revenues generated internally and the unpredictable public resources.
It has been discovered that some agencies have issued questionable contracts, violated contracts on contracts and have not been compliant with financial regulations.
Others have maintained the official vehicles illegally, spent without adequate approvals or funds paid without documentation.
In addition to asking for the recovery of funds, the Chamber underlined the need for institutional reforms to strengthen the financial discipline in the public sector.
Legislators urged that the heads of agency were authorized to appoint external auditors in the absence of the boards of administration, recommending a review of the existing financial regulations or the issue of a directive by the secretary to the government of the Federation (SGF).
Chairing the session, vice -president RT. Hon. Benjamin Kalu praised the president of the PAC and the members for their diligent and meticulous work.
He reiterated the determination of the Chamber to support transparency, enforce responsibility and protect public resources from bad management and corruption.
