Rimi College’s Class of 77-82 holds their General Assembly on October 24

Old students of Rimi College, Kaduna, who graduated in 1982, will hold the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of their Class Forum in Kaduna from October 24 to 25.

A statement from the class forum president, Peter Sofa, and secretary, Daniel Audu Laaki, said the AGM will be held in the College Assembly Hall.

It says the General Assembly will host discussions on the well-being of members and how they might relate closely as many have retired from active service.

“The General Assembly will provide an avenue for members to explore how to better relate, assisting and complementing each other.

“Members will share life experiences with those who have retired and discuss life in retirement to help those still serving.

“It is expected that such discussions will prepare those still serving for life outside the service,” it reads.

He added that the AGM will look to have some current students in the sessions to hear about current experiences at the institution founded in 1949.

“The school was founded in 1949 and remained a boarding school until a few years ago. It will be interesting to hear from current students what it means to be a student there today,” he explained.

The statement deplored the crisis suffered by the school, especially since it became a day school.

It expressed deep concern over the sale of around 83.5% of its land to other institutions and private entrepreneurs.

“We visited the school recently and most of us were moved to tears.

“Our former hostels, classrooms, canteens, staff quarters, laundries, toilets, places of worship have been sold to the people.

“These places have since been transformed into residents with private homes dominating the entire landscape; residents fight for spaces with what is left for students.

“It’s a really unpleasant sight. It’s just a sickening sight.

“We insisted on holding the general assembly in the school this year so that we could collectively see how bad the situation had become and explore modalities to discuss with the Kaduna state authorities.

“If we can’t reverse what’s been done, we should at least be able to try to stop further sales of the very little classroom space left,” he said.

He urged old students to attend the AGM as crucial issues would be discussed.

The statement added that the old students would, during the AGM, elect new officials to manage the affairs of the body for the three years.
