River Crisis: Former HOS accused the government of Fubara from the Bomb Council

Former Head of Rivers State Civil Service, Dr. George Nwake, has accused Governor Siminaayi Fubara who was suspended for regulating the bombing of the State Council in 2023.

The alleged action, according to Nwake, was intended to prevent the impeachment of fubara by members of parliament who were loyal to the Minister of Federal Capital Region, Nyesom Wike.

The Governor of Fubara, however, strongly denied the accusation, considered they were baseless and urged the Nigerians to ignore them.

Nwake, the new one resigned from his position, made accusations during the press briefing on Friday. He claimed to have personally witnessed the surrender of a bag of money to the former House of Assembly leader, Edison Ehie, who later became the Chief of Staff of Fubara.

According to Nwake, the money was allegedly intended to facilitate attacks in the assembly complex located in Moscow Road, Port Harcourt.

“First, everything began with the River State Council Council, where Governor Siminaayi Fubara directed his Chief of Staff, Edison Ehie, to burn the assembly to prevent his impeachment. That night, Edison was at the government’s home with two other people, including the former Chairman of Recount Obio/Akport, one government area, one Chijioke,” Nweeke.

“I was there with them when a bag of money was handed over to Edison for the operation, even though I did not know the amount in it. I want to tell people in the State of Rivers today that the House of Assembly complex in Moscow Road was deliberately passed down by Edison Ehie under the instructions of the Governor Siminaayi Fubara.

Nwaake further accused that other efforts were made to destroy the place of housing members of the House of House members. According to him, this plan was thwarted by a press conference held at the location by youth, elders, and members of the national assembly.

Expressing his disappointment over the alleged actions of the governor, Nwake said, “I am surprised and ask himself: how could a man who wanted to lead his people destroy the country’s assets and dispose of public funds for unnecessary ego battles?”

He also claimed that the Governor of Fubara personally stated the intention to destroy more state property, including the place of housing from the assembly members.

“I realized that they really wanted to destroy the second building because, a few weeks later, he personally told me that if he knew beforehand, he would withdraw their hall before targeting the housing place of the assembly. He did not realize that they had a beautiful hall where they now hold their sittings,” Nwake said.

Overcoming speculation about his departure from the office, Nwake clarified that he resigned voluntarily and was not dismissed or pressed to leave.

“With the burden of wrong information in print and electronic media, I have chosen to correct. I am not fired, I am also not depressed to resign; I did it voluntarily from the depth of my heart,” he said.

Governor Fubara has greatly denied the accusation, calling them as politically motivated fabrication. In a statement, he personally signed on Friday, Fubara described Nwake’s claim as “ridiculous.”

“The truth is that Dr. Nwake has been compromised, and whatever he says only aims to fulfill his promise to those who may have paid or forced him to lie to me,” said the Governor.

“I ask all Nigerians who are well-intended and good people from the state of Rivers to ignore everything that Dr. Nwake said because they were only discouraged to discredit me and my administration, and damage the peace process initiated by Mr. President.”

The accusation and back of the lawsuit have further deepened the political crisis in the state of Rivers, intensifying the struggle for power between the Governor of Fubara and its predecessor which turned into a political rival, Nyesom Wike. When the tension increased, the Rivers State people remained trapped in a shootout, not sure about the future of their leadership and government.
