Rivers state marks the end of the emergency government with Thanksgiving, setting the stage for democratic transition

Rivers State on Sundays started an official ceremony to mark the end of the six-month emergency rules with inter-decentan thanksgiving services held at the Ecumenical Center in Abonima Wharf, Port Harcourt.

Thanksgiving services attract a series of high officials, including state administrators, representatives of the Admiral Ibok-Ett Ekwe IBA (RTD), along with traditional rulers, senior government officials, heads of security, local government chairman, and community leaders. This event marked a symbolic step towards the return of democratic government, scheduled to be continued on September 18 with the recovery of the suspected governor and the state legislative.

Emergency administration that came out had begun a series of reforms aimed at stabilizing the country before surrender. On Friday, Ibas inaugurated the New Rivers State Pension Council, a step designed to overcome old complaints among retirees and restore trust in the system.

“Today’s event is not just a ceremony; this is a re -affirmation of our government’s commitment to ensure that those who have worked faithfully in our beloved country’s services are treated with dignity, respect, and careful care for them to get,” Ibas said during the inauguration ceremony.

The newly formed pension council has been assigned to instill transparency, efficiency, and accountability in pension management – an area that has experienced management errors for years and payment delays.

Thanksgiving on Sunday was attended by permanent secretary, council members, industrial captains, heads of state security and paramilitary agencies, as well as other prominent stakeholders, all of which gathered to reflect on emergency government periods and anticipate peaceful transitions.

When the State of Rivers prepares to return to civilian leadership, the ceremony underlines administrative efforts to end his term of office with a tone of stability, institutional reform, and reconciliation.
