The executive director, Sports Development and Operation, Edo State, Sabina Chikere has dedicated his prestigious Wakawaka Sports Award to the general manager of the National Institute for Sports, His Excellency, RT. Hon. Comrade Philip Shaibu, in recognition of his unshakable support and his trust in his ability to guide the awakening of sport in Edo’s state.
He praised Shaibu for playing a fundamental role in restoring Edo State’s glory of the national sports scene. He observed that the sporting fortunes of the state had decreased due to years of abandonment, but witnessed a significant turnaround in reversal under the guidance of Shibu during the previous administration.
“The Edo sports community owes a lot of gratitude to Philip Shaibu. His vision and commitment contributed to bringing the state of Edo back to the spotlight among the best sports states in Nigeria,” said Chikere.
He also praised the current administration under the governor on Monday Okpebholo for continuing on the path of progress. According to her, the state government is adopting bold steps to rely on past results by exploring new strategies to improve all the sectors of Edo’s sports ecosystem.
“The government is not resting. They are determined to raise the bar by implementing sustainable development in every sport,” he added.
The dedication of Chikere of the prize is to the sports leadership that the community underlines its commitment to the collective goal of supporting excellence in Edo state sports.
