The Governor of the State of Borno Babagana Umara Zulum has distributed 110 new operating vehicles, 500 motorcycles and 280 houses to the police forces of Nigeria and other security agencies to help in the current war against crime in the state.
The distribution was marked by the police inspector general, Kayode Egbetokun, who praised the initiative and described the governor as a “performing governor” in the fight against insecurity in the north-east.
The ceremony, held at the Government House in Maiduguri, attended the best security officials, including the theatrical commander of the Operation Hadin Kai, the main general Waidi Shuaibu; Deputy and General Police Inspectors and others.
According to the distribution formula, 60 vehicles will be assigned to the Nigerian police and 50 vehicles and 500 motorcycles to the Nigerian military.
In the same way, the police will be assigned 220 houses to Mai Mala Buni Estate, 20 in the Kashim Shertima estate and another 40 in Wulari, all in Maiduguri.
In his address, Governor Zulum underlined the importance of supporting the security forces with the necessary tools that, he said, would have improved their efficiency and dedication to duty.
He said: “Today marks a significant step in our unshakable commitment to strengthen the security architecture of the state of Borno; We have gathered here to present 100 operating vehicles, 500 motorcycles and housing neighborhoods to the members of the Nigerian police and military forces, depending on the case, which are tirelessly and sacrifice to safeguard our communities.
“This modest gesture continues the commitment of our government towards security agencies, which are the cornerstones to achieve peace, progress and development in our state.
“These vehicles will improve their mobility, improve their response times and strengthen their operational skills in the fight against insecurity and social vices”
The governor praised President Bola Tinubu for his leadership in supporting security agencies.
Zulum has also expressed his commitment to making his services to security organizations.
He said: “We are grateful to the federal government of Nigeria, under the distinct leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, for having provided strategic leadership and support not linked to our security agencies while working assiduously to safeguard the life and property of our citizens.
“Under my watch, the government of the State of Borno has maintained a friendly relationship with our security forces. We realized that without security, the recovery of our state from insecurity, insurrection and forfeiture would not have produced the desired result.
“By supporting our security forces, we are investing in a multiplier of vigor, speed of action and timely response of the armed forces and safety agencies to our safety challenges. We are committed to working together to deal with insecurity problems and build a safer and more prosperous future for our people. “
In its observations, the IGP expressed gratitude to the Governor Zulum for what he described as enormous support.
Egbetokun said: “These operational activities, including 110 vehicles and 500 motorcycles, will undoubtedly increase our operational capacity. They will allow us to respond more effectively to the emergencies of the state. They will also allow us to patrol our communities more efficiently, at the end improving the supply of services to the people of the State of Borno.
“I thank you, once again your excellence for this gesture; I also want to assure you, your excellence, that these operational resources will be made to the immediate operational use to improve the safety of people of the state of Borno. “
