The suspended senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan, reiterated his commitment to celebrate the Sallah with his voters despite the security concerns raised by the police command in the state of Kogi.
On Tuesday, the police had warned against an event of returning home for the senator, citing the intelligence relationships that the thugs could divert the event to cause disorders.
“The request for cancellation becomes necessary, observing that the intelligence reveals that some thugs plan to divert the process and cause a peace disorder in the state. The command cannot afford to endanger the existing peace that the state is currently enjoying,” said the police in a declaration of his spokesperson, William Aya.
The strength also warned that he would not hesitate to take decisive actions against anyone who disturbs public order.
Governor Usman Ododo had previously imposed the ban on gatherings and public rallies, citing security problems.
Reacting in a declaration on social media, Akpoti-Usuaghan insisted that his visit to his electoral college for the celebration of Eid-El-Fitr would have gone on as expected, urging the Nigerians to hold the governor Ododo, the former governor Yahaya Bello and the president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio responsible for any violence that could occur.
“My dear people of Kogi Central, I can’t wait for our peaceful Sallah celebrations today. However, we should be met or infiltrated by violence, the Nigerians should keep the Gov òdodo, Yahaya Bello & SP Godswill Akpabio totally responsible,” he wrote.
He reiterated his dedication to commit himself to his community, underlining that all the necessary provisions had been taken to guarantee a peaceful celebration.
“As a senator who represents Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan remains committed to promoting unity and cooperation. His dedication to the people of Kogi Central is unshakable and does not wait to celebrate Eid-El-Fitr with its components.
“We assure the public that all the necessary agreements are underway to guarantee a success and joyful event. We invite all the members of the community to join us in marking this special occasion,” added the note.
In the meantime, the lawyer for civil rights, Inabehe Offiiong asked Senator Akpoti-Auduaghan to challenge the police and go on with his visit. He said that the law prohibits the police from banning the rallies, but instead of providing coverage and guiding the demonstrators in guaranteeing peaceful conduct, adding that corruption and bad practices had eaten so much in the fabric of the nation that the government agents openly break the existing laws of the earth.
