Sanwo-Olu promised to support an Edo governor-elect on the Lagos pattern

Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, on Saturday vowed to support Edo State Governor-elect, Monday Okpebholo, with a suitable development pattern for the state.

Sanwo-Olu made his promise when the governor-elect paid a courtesy visit at Lagos House, Marina.

Okpebholo, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, defeated his Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) rival, Mr Asue Ighodalo, in last Saturday’s governorship election in Edo State.

Sanwo-Olu said: “We welcome the new Governor-elect of Edo State, honorable Senator Monday Okpebholo, here with his Deputy-elect, Idahosa, and the current Deputy Governor of Edo, Comrade Philip Shuaib.

“Your victory is for all of Edo. Everyone should join hands with you to develop the country.

“I want to assure you that you are not the first people Lagos will support in terms of development templates. There is no harm in copying, you just need to copy well.

“We will provide all our institutions that you believe will meet Edo’s needs.”

He said the state government would present ideas to the governor-elect that would move Lagos forward.

“We are glad you are using Lagos as a starting point to receive our blessings and acknowledge the small support we provide.

“The people of Lagos State congratulate you.

“Other contestants must come together and work together with you so that you can develop Edo. I believe it is the right thing to say and the right thing to do.

“We saw during our visit that this state could be much better, and we believe you have a big heart to change this state,” he added.

Earlier, Okpebholo thanked the state government for its support during the election

He also thanked Sanwo-Olu for his advice.

The Governor-elect urged other contestants in the election to join hands with him to move Edo State forward.

“We thank you for your warm welcome and thank you for your steadfast support before and after the election. The richness of your experience cannot be measured.

“With the grace of God and the support of the good people of Edo State, we will strive to make the lives of our people better.

“I call on other contestants to join hands with me so that we can provide a brighter future for our society,” he said.
