The Democratic Party of the Governors Forum peoples (PDP-GF) and former governors have appointed the former president of the Senate Bukola Saraki as the head of a reconciliation committee of seven members.
The president of the PDP-GF, the governor Bala Mohammed of the State of Bauchi, announced him while he informed journalists after the crucial meeting of the forum with former governors on Sunday evening in Abuja.
Mohammed said that the Committee of seven members was commissioned to reconcile the members on display before the meeting of the National Executive Committee of the PDP (NEC) scheduled for May 27 and the next national convention of August.
“We are here with all the governors elected under the party who are still in the party and a considerable number of former governors of the PDP, with our leaders, the president of the party and some members of the National Working Committee (NWC).
“We discussed some of the issues relating to our party, some existential issues, of course, that have been circulating in the media and between us, so that we will be able to navigate without hitches for the NEC expected that it would take place on May 27 and by August we will have an early agreement.
“So many problems and relationships have been made, and it is an opportunity to close the ranks and make sure that at least there are no sick feelings, there are no scruples and there are no doubts among the party leaders.
“The party governors contacted our colleagues who have been there before, who have more experience.
“Whatever suggestion or opinions they can have, they will do a lot to give further impulse to the impulse of our NEC and our agreement which should take place on specific days.
“We want to reassure our team supporters that the PDP works, the PDP is united,” said Mohammed.
Answering the questions about the recent defection of the Sheriff of the Governor Oborevwori of Delta and others at the Congress of All Progressives (APC), Muhammad said that the party was working not only to strengthen its structures, but also to claim its states.
“Well, these are some of the manifestations in a democratic configuration like this we have, and this is what is forcing us to gather.
“Rather than decreasing and weakening, it is making us stronger and we will assure us at least those chapters in which we have history, in which we have the structure, are not left alone.
“They will be able to produce governors of the PDP by grace of God, because we will provide the playing field in the next convention that is coming,” he said.
On which specific issues were discussed during the meeting, Mohammed said: “I can’t tell you all the problems we discussed.
“We discussed the unit. Surely there are some sick feelings and we are not here to hide things under the carpet. You know some.
“Some of the Court disputes, some of the doubts between the members of the party and, of course, we would not like to blame the APC for causing a crisis, but they are likely that they are. We are not saying that they are,” he said.
