Senate Oath of Election, Constitutional, Judicial Legal Affairs Amplifies ahead of the 2027 Election

When the 10th National Assembly entered the second half, the Nigerian Senate had reiterated its commitment to encourage large reforms throughout the country’s democratic, law and fiscal systems – with the main focus on election reforms, constitutional reviews, and judicial transformation.

The Senate Leader, Senator Opeyemi Bamidle, made disclosure on Sunday in a statement that marked the performance of the midterm of the legislative semester and put his agenda for the next two years.

According to Bamidele, “We are both waiting for greater judicial reforms in the next two years to ensure justice is carried out transparently and persistently. We already have various bills looking for judicial reforms. While some people are looking for reviews of how judges and judicial officers are appointed, others focus on their services and welfare.

He also underlined the determination of the senate to overhaul the Nigerian selection system, ensuring integrity in the future elections and greater citizen trust in the process.

“When you know that if you compete for elections, your voices will definitely be calculated. This guarantee will make democracy more attractive to our people, increase voter participation in the process and make our selection process more credible and transparent,” said Bamidele.

The 10th National Assembly, was inaugurated on June 13, 2023, with Senator Godswill Akpabio and RT. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas emerged as president of the Senate and the Speaker of the DPR, which had experienced what Bamidle described as “Strategic Legislative Involvement” in the first round.

He highlighted the legislative productivity of the Senate, expressing significant progress in the ratification of the bill and executive involvement.

“In 2024/2025 the legislature, for example, 506 bills began in the senate compared to 477 in 2023/2024. This was an increase of 6.07 percent. Also, in 2024/2025 the legislative year, the upper room entirely passed 83 bills into laws compared to the previous 25 legislative years.

“This is truly a big achievement that melalam contributed to 232 percent increase in the number of legislation which was fully imposed between 2023 and 2025. Compared to 13 years in 2024/2024 which was proposed in 2024. to 480 in 2024/2025,” he explained.

Among the quoted legislative achievements are the ratification of tax reform bills, which according to Bamidelle shows the commitment of the senate to complete the Nigerian fiscal bottleneck and stimulate broad -based economic growth.

He noted, “The Bill will carry out broad reforms that will eliminate structural inefficiency in the state tax administration; simplify tax obligations for businesses and citizens; Increasing investor confidence in the domestic economy and catalyzing monumental growth in all sectors.”

When the 2027 General Election is getting closer, the Senate Reform Agenda indicates important efforts to restore public confidence in democratic institutions, strengthen the rule of law, and improve the framework of state governance.
