Serap requires EFCC, ICPC probe in alleged N3M tangenti for invoices, movements on Nass – Thage

The socio-economic project for rights and liability invited the president of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and the speaker of the Chamber of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas to refer to the accusations that legislators pay to N3M to present invoices, motions and petitions at the National Assembly to anti-ingest agencies for investigations.

Serapi, in an open letter dated August 16, 2025 and signed by his deputy director, Kolawole Oluwadare, urged the leadership of the National Assembly to appoint those who presumably involved in the corruption regime and recovering the proceeds of corruption.

The group also asked Akpabio and Abbas to guarantee the protection of Ibrahim Ayo, a member of the House of Representatives (APC, Jigawa), who said in a viral video that legislators pay between N1M and N3m to present motions, invoices and petitions.

“The accusations according to which legislators pay bribes to present motions and invoices to the national assembly are a serious violation of the public trust and the constitutional oath of the office”, the declaration states in part.

According to Serapi, these practices “make a mockery of legislative and legislative powers pursuant to section 4 of the 1999 constitution” and undermine the democratic rights of the Nigerians.

The organization warned that if the National Assembly does not act within seven days, it would take into consideration a legal action to force compliance with the public interest.

He underlined that referring to the issue to the Commission for economic and financial crimes and independent corrupt practices and other related related crimes would help to restore public confidence in the legislator.

Serap also recalled the leadership of their obligations pursuant to section 15 (5) of the Constitution and the United Nations Convention against corruption, observing that Auyo, as an informant, has the right of protection pursuant to Article 33 of the Convention.

Aoyo had said: “Since I was elected in 2015, no individual gave me an account to pass. You have to pay from N3m, N2m or N1M to present it. And after presenting the bill, you have to press pressure on the chamber members to accept it.”
