Seven Bodies found in Niger Floods

The Niger state government has confirmed the recovery of seven additional bodies from the new -new flood disaster in the Mokwa area in the state.

The Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA) had previously announced the recovery of 153 bodies in the flood that destroyed last week in the state.

The latest developments carry the number of victims in the incident to 160.

The Secretary of the State Government, Abubakar Usman, confirmed the discovery in a statement on Tuesday in Minna.

He said four bodies were found on Monday, and one corpse was found in the early Tuesday.

According to him, two bodies were found on Tuesday in an ongoing search effort.

SSG revealed that the body that had recovered since then was buried.

Usman said: “This development brought the total number of deaths confirmed from floods to 160.

“The state government wants to ask the population and the general public to remain calm and pray during this collective sadness.

“We urge everyone to avoid spreading information that is not verified or misleading which can further deepen sadness, incite panic, or cause unnecessary confusion in our community.

“While we continue to lament the lost lives, the government remains committed to providing the support needed for families affected and intensifying efforts to save and assistance needed.”
