Seven missing, about 100 homes flooded in Niger

At least seven people were missing and about 100 homes and farmland were flooded in Niger State on Friday.

The Director-General of the Niger State Emergency Management Agency (NSEMA), Alhaji Abdullah Baba Arah, confirmed the news to journalists in Minna.

He said the flood was caused by hours of heavy rain.

He added that the affected communities were in Mashegu and Magama local government areas of the state.

Arah said: “It is true that NSEMA received reports of flooding in Mashegu and Magama LGAs. The flooding was caused by heavy rains that lasted until the early hours of Friday, August 30.

“Seven people were reported missing, more than 89 houses were affected, hundreds of hectares of agricultural land were submerged, and 3 vehicles were swept away.”
