In an important shift in the House of the State Council of Ondo, Deputy Chairperson Abayomi Akinruntan and the majority leader of Oluwole Ogunmolasuyi had resigned from their leadership role.
Their resignation, announced during the plenary on Tuesday, marked a significant development in the state legislative leadership.
Akinruntan, which represents the constituency of Ilaje 1, and Ogunmolasuyi, representing Owo Constituency 1, both members of all the Congress of Proprictifts (APC). Speaking to the Parliament, Akinruntan linked his decision with the need to share political power in the state. This is a step that many interpreted as part of internal restructuring within the party.
The speaker, Olamide Oladiji, led the session and recognized his resignation with appreciation for the services of both. The colleagues in the room responded with mixed emotions, some expressed surprises, others praised the maturity of the transition.
After resignation, the assembly moved quickly to fill the leadership vacuum. Hon. Ololade Gbegudu, who represented the Okitipupa 2 constituency, was elected as the new representative of the speaker. Meanwhile, Hon. Olatunji Oshati from the Ose constituency has taken over as the majority leader.
Changes in leadership came at a political sensitive time in the state, because APC continued efforts to maintain internal cohesion ahead of the upcoming election cycle.
