Society bigwigs prepare to storm Ossomala for the burial of the Awogu matriarch

The ancient town of Ossomala in Anambra State is set to witness an influx of dignitaries from all sporting and business circles in Nigeria as family, friends and colleagues gather to honor the life of the late Mrs Nnedinobi Regina Awogu.

The nonagenarian, who died in February 2026 at the age of 90, will be buried with ceremonies starting Thursday, April 16, with a wake mass at her residence. The funeral mass is scheduled for Friday, April 17 at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church, Ossomala.

His son, Owelle Felix Awogu, General Manager and Head of External Broadcasts of SuperSport, revealed that several prominent personalities have confirmed their presence at the ceremonies.

Those expected include Odofin Adewunmi Ogunsanya; Rt Hon Somto Udeze, Speaker of the Anambra State Assembly; and Eng. Nnamdi Ezigbo, CEO of Slots.
Also invited to participate are Chief Yemi Idowu, Chairman of Nath Boys; Chikelue Ileonyosi, president of Anambra State Football Federation; and Malam Shehu Dikko, president of the National Sports Commission.

The event has continued to generate widespread interest, with many describing it as a fitting celebration of a life well lived.

The late Mrs. Awogu is remembered as a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, whose life of grace and service impacted both her community and humanity at large.
