The head of the national senior team of Russia Valeri Karpin has praised the national senior team of Nigeria after yesterday’s 1-1 draw in a friendly game in Moscow, reports Owngoalnigeria.com.
The coach saw that his team took an advantage in the first half when the Nigerian defender Semi Ajayi diverted a cross to his own network. But in the second half he had to deal with his goalkeeper delivering the ball to replace Tolu Arokodare, who stunned Nigeria’s draw.
The Karpin team, which is currently under a prohibition of international football for FIFA, due to the invasion of the country of Ukraine, was asked about the strength of the Super Eagles against their previous African opponents in Zambia and Kenya, respectively.
He described the Super Eagles and Cameroon as higher than the aforementioned teams, explaining that even FIFA in their classification qualifies them higher.
“All are very athletic, powerful and strong teams. Cameroon and Nigeria are significantly higher at the level than Zambia and Kenya. Even FIFA rating confirms this. They cannot be compared. Nigeria and Cameroon are more interesting.”
Speaking more, he said that the configuration of the Nigerian team makes it easier for them to be defeated explaining how they created less, but frustrated their team attempt to score more goals despite creating more opportunities.
“They did not create threats to us, but we created moments. Melehin, after a free kick, that of Barinov, after leaving the defense. The goal we granted can barely be created by Nigeria, there was not even any pressure there,” he said at the conference after the game.
