Suspended Abia health commissioner resigns

The Commissioner for Health in Abia State, Dr. Ngozi Okoronkwo, has resigned from her position.

Governor Alex Otti suspended Okoronkwo on June 11.

The Governor’s Press Secretary, Mr. Njoku Ukoha, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday in Umuahia.

Ukoha said the commissioner submitted his resignation letter on Tuesday even as the panel set up to investigate him for alleged misconduct was still meeting.

He added that the governor accepted the resignation and thanked him for his services and modest achievements in repositioning the Abia State health sector for better service delivery in the past one year.

Otti, according to the CPS, reaffirmed his commitment to the country’s transformation.

“Otti also noted that his mandate also includes reshuffling and reshuffling of his cabinet, when necessary with the sole aim of fulfilling all his promises to the people,” Ukoha added.

Okoronkwo’s resignation adds to the number of commissioners who have so far resigned from the state government.

Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Chima Oriaku, and his counterpart for Agriculture, Prof. Monica Ironkwe, quit cabinet last week.
