Tambuwal accuses the EFCC of the hunt for political witches, states that the detention intended to intimidate the opposition

The former governor of the state of Sokoto and Senator at the service, Aminu Tambuwal, accused the commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC) of trying to smear his public service record through what he described as politically motivated harassment.

Tambuwal, which was released on bail on Thursday after spending a night in the EFCC custody, told the supporters during a reception in Sokoto who would not have been blackmailed or intimidated by the anti-ingesto agency.

He said he voluntarily honored the invitation of the FCC on August 6 and again on 11 August, but was shocked when the Commission asked for surety instead of granting him the deposit on personal recognition.

“I told them that I am equal for four years, governor for eight years and now Senator. I am commander of the Federal Republic and merit respect,” said Tambuwal.

According to him, the president of the FCC insisted on two federal directors as surety with introduction letters, ignoring the reasons for his lawyer, a senior supporter of Nigeria, to relax the conditions.

“They brought me to the A23 mobile, where I rested until the next morning,” he said.

The former governor, now a member of the coalition of the opposition of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), questioned the times of his arrest, claiming that he was part of a wider system to weaken the opposition.

“Why now? Why at this moment? The government of the state of Sokoto has tried an investigation commission of the kangaroo and has failed. Now, the EFCC is used,” he said.

Tambuwal accused the administration of Bola Tinubu of protecting his allies from the accusation while aiming for opponents.

“Once you join APC, all your sins are forgiven. It’s what we need to be safe? The Nigerians are not foolish,” he said.

He also criticized the government’s appointments for violating the principle of federal character and criticized his policies as anti-people.

“The 2023 elections have been made up. We will not afford it in 2027. For the grace of God, we will end this mistake,” Tambuwal swore.
