Panic has gripped Oro-Ago community in Ifelodun Local Government Area of Kwara State following a daring attack by terrorists on Wednesday night that left one person dead and government infrastructure destroyed.
The attack, which underscored the growing security challenges in the state, saw a group of six gunmen infiltrate the community under cover of dusk, targeting individuals and symbols of institutions.
The main target of this attack was a dedicated local hunter. According to community members, the attackers moved with deadly precision, defeating the hunter while he was on active duty.
The victim known as Baba Ibeji died in the confrontation. His brother, who accompanied him during the ambush, narrowly escaped with his life but reportedly suffered injuries during the fierce struggle.
Following the hunter’s killing, the terrorists reportedly turned their attention to the nearby Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC) facility. Sources within the community revealed that the office was “unmanned at the time,” allowing armed men to vandalize and ransack the building without immediate intervention.

The trail of destruction widens, as attackers target the local economy. Point of Sale (PoS) outlets in the area were reportedly broken into and destroyed, further increasing the sense of vulnerability among local small business owners.
Local sources who confirmed the incident on Thursday morning expressed deep concern over the brazen nature of the attack, particularly targeting a well-known security volunteer like the late hunter.
While the Kwara State Police Command and the leadership of the NSCDC are expected to give an official statement on the violations, residents of Oro-Ago are left to grapple with the events of the night that turned a peaceful community into a battlefield.
