Abuja (Reporter Core) The 46th edition of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Open Tennis Championship ended in style in Abuja on the weekend, while Emmanuel Micheal emerged the winner of the men’s singles. He won 7/6 (6) 6/2 against Prosper Okonkwo. While in women’s singles, Adasuwa Osabuohien emerged the winner Haven won with 6/1 7/5 against Emmanuel Essienawan

The CBN Governor, Mr. Olayemi Micheal Cardoso Who Was Represeted at the closing Ceremony at the Parkage B of the Mko ABIOLA National Stadium, Abuja by Mrs. Hamamatsu Sidi Ali, Acting Director Corporate Communications Said That the CBN for the Past Four Decades Have Remained the Proud Sponsor and firm Believer of the Power of Sport, Particularly Tennis, to Shape Lives, Discovery Talents and Build National Unity. “Through this championship, we have seen young men and women arise from the darkness to become national and international champions, this lasting legacy is the one we deeply love”.

Michael said, in support of our vision, the CBN tennis Tennis tournament was launched in 2006 to serve as a nursery for the care of young talents who would have graduated in this prestigious senior open. “I am pleased to note that some of the senior finalists today were once champions in the junior phase, a real testimony of the value of the continuous investment in young people.

The Governor of the CBN insisted that beyond the Court, the CBN remained passionate about the holistic development of Nigerian youth. “We recognized sports as a powerful platform not only for entertainment but for Empowerment, involvement and natural integration”. He added that on behalf of CBN, “I repeat our commitment to cultivate talents, promote excellence and support initiatives that favor unity and development”.

However, the leadership of the National Sports Commission (NSC), represented by the director Fead, Mrs. Mobe Ikanna, praised the CBN for their continuous annual sponsorship of the championships, observing that this partnership not only brought prestige in the tennis game, but also provided a platform for young people to show their talents and passion. This, in turn, helped keep them out of the streets. Guiding them towards a more positive and productive path.

The president of NSC Shehu Dikko also praised the efforts of the Nigerian Tennis Federation (NTF) in the organization of the championship year after year. Their dedication and professionalism were decisive for the success of the event and their hard work and commitment have not gone unnoticed.

“By creating a way to young talents to develop their skills, the NTF played an important role in the construction of a strong sporting culture in the country.

Dikko said that the collaboration between CBN, NTF and the Tinubu administration had a significant impact on the growth of tennis in Nigeria. The support of the President for the basic development was a driving force and the efforts made by the CBN and NTF further amplified his vision. “It is moving to see that our leaders recognize the power of sport in giving power to young people and promoting a healthy lifestyle.” He added.

For his part, Hon. Bukola Olopade (DG NSC) also observed that the 46th edition of the open tennis championships sponsored by the CBN was a sensational success and would not have been possible without the support of the CBN, the NTF and the administration of the President.

In the meantime, the president of the Nigerian tennis Federation Eng. Ifedaye Akudolu, who spoke previously recognized the CBN for their immense contribution to the development of young people in Nigeria through tennis sports, for their precious partnership.

He said: “We lost the two years in which they did not show up, but I promise that we will not leave them longer”.

Akudolu also recognized the media for their constant and widespread coverage of the event “, your role in promoting the game and amplifying its impact cannot be overrated”.
