The famous Nigerian singer Alegle Adegbola Akande, widely known as 9ise, revealed that he no longer identifies himself with Christianity or Islam, choosing instead of embracing the traditional African spirituality.
The award-winning artist made the dissemination during a recent episode of The Nancy Isime Show, broadcast on Saturday, where he told a pre-Morte experience that changed his spiritual perspective.
Responding to a question of facing spiritual attacks in his career, 9yth said: “several times”, but has identified a particularly heartbreaking episode between 2009 and 2010 when he suffered from a mysterious disease.
“I was throwing blood for about six months in my house. I had to leave the house. It was not a medical condition,” he said, explaining that modern medicine did not provide answers or relief.
According to the Crooner of “Gongo Aso”, his healing began only after he had turned to IFA, the traditional Yoruba spiritual system. “I’m not a Christian or Muslim, I’m a Babalawo. I am an African. I am a traditionalist,” he said. “The first time I experienced the IFA was when I was throwing blood. I just wish I had known the IFA at the beginning.”
He referred to the Afrobeat Fela Anikulap Kuti pioneer, who was also known for embracing African spirituality. “Fela went to Ogun and people were deriding him, but now I understand,” he said 9th.
Known for having infused Yoruba’s culture, idioms and proverbs in his music, 9th said that his spiritual alignment is a natural extension of his cultural defense. He urged the Africans to reconnect with their heritage and embrace the traditional systems of beliefs, which according to him provides identity, protection and healing often missing in modern religions.
At the start of fame at the end of the 2000s with multiple shots and prizes, 9th remained a prominent voice for indigenous values, now not only in music, but in faith.
