The state government of Ondo states that the adulteration of cocoa beans compromises its quality, causes the loss of premium value and attracts discounts on the goods in the global market.
The leader Odusanya, a permanent secretary of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Silviculture of Ondo, declared him on Saturday in Akure, facing journalists on the commitment of the government to fight adulteration.
Odusanya explained that the ministry recently seized adulteators in the Ireje community, the area of the local state’s local government.
“The state of ondo, being the highest cocoa manufacturer in Nigeria, is seriously influenced by these activities, which obscures the image of the state and the country to the international market.
“We will continue to fight this war against adulteration. Although, it is a significant challenge, we will not give up until the state is free from this harmful practice.
“In the meantime, the recent arrest, a suspect woman specialized in the supply of adulterant, will have to face the full force of the law in accordance with the laws on products,” he said.
Odusanya invited the residents to unite the forces with the government to eradicate the threat, which was harmful to the reputation of the state and the country in the international market.
In addition, Sunday Dosumu, director of production licenses in the ministry, explained that the female suspicion was captured by the zero tolerance task force on adulteration while in routine patrol in the Ireje community.
“The suspicion was found with dry kolanut bags that had been cut into smaller pieces, which contains nicotine that compromises the quality of cocoa beans
“He also had fresh and dry cocoa pods of cocoa pods that had been cut in smaller parts,” he said.
Dosumu, who turned on for the activities of some cocoa merchants, said that, despite the awareness campaigns, some people still committed themselves to adulteration.
According to him, the main reason at the basis of adulteration is to artificially increase weight and profit by adding particles to cocoa beans, which is unimistic to produce trade.
