The APC slammed the Osun Assembly for prioritizing Amotekun officials over justice for the victims

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has criticized the State House of Assembly for what they described as an insensitive response to the alleged killing of at least ten residents of Akinlalu, a community in Ife North Local Government Area, by agents of the Amotekun Corps.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, accused the Assembly, led by Chief Adewale Egbedun, of showing a lack of empathy following the incident.

“The Egbedun-led House of Representatives has shown insensitivity to the cruel killing of innocent Akinlalu indigenes by the inflammatory Amotekun Corps,” Olabisi said.

According to APC, the tragic incident occurred on September 30, 2025, when Amotekun members allegedly stormed Akinlalu and opened fire on residents, killing several people and injuring others. Following public outrage, police authorities sealed Amotekun offices in Osogbo and Ile-Ife and arrested several officials of the corps.

The party blamed the Assembly for remaining silent for ten days after the killing, and later issued a statement condemning the police for sealing Amotekun’s offices and arresting its personnel.

“It is disheartening that the Assembly waited a full ten days before making any statement regarding the extrajudicial killings of innocent citizens,” Olabisi said, questioning the moral justification of lawmakers who prioritized the reopening of Amotekun offices over justice for the victims.

He added that the Assembly’s response showed that they were more concerned about the inconvenience faced by security forces than about the lives lost in Akinlalu. “There is a feeling that the incident would not have been an issue for MPs if the Amotekun office had not been sealed,” he said.

Olabisi also defended the police action, stating that the Nigerian Police acted within its constitutional authority to investigate and make arrests. “The condemnation of the sentiments of the MPR leadership regarding the sealing of offices and the arrest of Amotekun officials is unnecessary,” he said.

The APC further accused the Amotekun Commander in Osun State, Isaac Adekunle Omoyele, of human rights violations and mismanagement, and alleged that his leadership had damaged the reputation of the corps. The party called for reforms in the security environment to restore public confidence.

“We are not saying Amotekun should be abolished, but it should be managed well. Amotekun should not become an instrument of oppression or political victimization under any government,” Olabisi said.

He urged the Assembly to show responsibility and ensure accountability for the killings, and added, “The Speaker must stop acting as if blood does not flow in his veins. The House must champion the Amotekun commander to face the probe and help uncover the truth behind the Akinlalu massacre.”

Meanwhile, Chief Adewale Egbedun on Friday demanded that the Amotekun offices be opened immediately, arguing that the police had no authority to obstruct the state-backed security agencies created under the law.

Egbedun alleged that the police action was influenced by Senator Adenigba Fadahunsi (Osun East) who admitted inviting the agents involved in the arrest.

Senator Fadahunsi, however, emphasized his role in inviting the police, insisting that the people killed were his constituents and warned the Assembly against shielding the Amotekun Corps from accountability. He warned that further loss of lives in Osun East Senatorial District would not be tolerated.
