The Federal High Court in Abuja has passed the key witness in the trial of the Terrorism of the Biafra Indigenous Peoples (IPOB) Nnamdi Kanu to provide evidence of their behind the scenes, quoting security issues.
Hakim James Omotosho gave an order on Tuesday after the Ex Parte application by the main advisor to the Federal Government, Nigeria’s senior advocate, Adegboyega Awomolo.
In its application, Awomolo argues that the sensitive nature of the allegations of terrorism of seven counts to Kanu requires protecting witness identity. “These people are afraid of their safety and need anonymity to testify without intimidation,” he told the court. Judge Omotosho agreed, directing the witness’s testimony was delivered outside the camera and from public records.

The Kanu defense team, led by Sanu Kanu Agabi, did not oppose the request but asked for a guarantee that the federal government would expand the same confidentiality if the Kanu guarantee application needed witness testimony. Judge Omotosho recorded the agreement and emphasized the responsibility of the court to balance open justice with personal security.
After the verdict, the prosecution called out his first witness, who was identified only as Pwaaa, who began to provide evidence behind the protective screen. The court observer reported a solemn atmosphere when Pwaaa described the situation that forms the basis of the federal government case.
