The court declared the 33 Ondo LCDAs created by Akeredolu illegal

Justice AO Adebusuoye of the Ondo State High Court, Akure, on Thursday declared the creation of 33 Local Council Development Areas (LCDA) by the late former Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu illegal.

Akeredolu in September 2023 signed the bill establishing the LCDA after it was passed by the state House of Assembly.

The development takes the number of local councils in the state to 51.

The judge who delivered the judgment filed by one Tolu Babaleye, on behalf of 22 plaintiffs, held that the LCDA was not validly created.

He added that it is illegal for a governor to sign legislation outside the state he governs.

Akeredolu died after a long battle with cancer on December 27, 2023.

The deceased’s deputy at that time, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, was immediately appointed as governor of the state.
