The Court grants the deposit to the first citizen of the first citizen

A court of the magistrate sitting in Owerri, in the state of Imo, Wednesday 10 September 2025, granted the deposit in the sum of N2 million to the publisher of the First Citizen newspaper, Ejike Ogbonna.

Other conditions of deposit include the supply of a surety that must show the proof of the property of a land property within the jurisdiction of the Court and a traditional sovereign to support the bond of deposit.

The magistrate chaired CJ Uzoechi, who granted the demand for deposit, observed that the question can be climbed.

The question was updated to October 3, 2025, for hearing.

Ejike Ogbonna, who was brought to court in handcuffs, was tried with an accusation of four counts on the border with an alleged cyberbullying.

He is accused of defaming the special consultant of the Governor of the Imo State on conformity, Chinasa Nwaneri, through a vocal note presumably widespread through social media.

It has been collected that Ogbonna spent about a month in the Owerri correction center before his liberation on deposit.
