A member of the staff of Ecobank Nigeria, Solomon Stephen Ufayo, was postponed to the Ikoyi corrective center for presumably engaged in IT crime that involved the fraudulent transfer of over N2.4 million.
The banker was accused by the commission for economic and financial crimes (EFCC), the Zonal Command of Lagos, in front of judge Yellim Bogoro of the Federal High Court sitting in Ikoyi, Lagos, on charges of a counting on the edge of the computer crime.
According to the accusation, Ufayo, who worked as a cashier in Ecobank, was accused of impersonating a customer, Ogunfodunrin Omowunmi Ajoke, between 10 and 28 March 2025.
Presumably he published rumors of fictitious deposit and withdrawal on his Ecobank account (n. 2801086259), without his consent, and devised the sum of N2.404,000 in his opay personal account.
The accusation states in part: “That you, Solomon Stephen Ufayo … you have represented you fraudulently like Ogunfodunrin Omowunmi, publishing false deposits and withdrawals … with the intention of obtaining advantage for yourself.”
Ufayo declared himself guilty of the charge when he was read.
Following the reason for guilt, the judicial consultant, Abdulhamid L. Tukur, presented David Ngale Gajere, an EFCC agent, to review the facts of the case.
Gajere narrated how fraudulent transactions were performed and confirmed that the accused had issued a bank draft of N2.404,000 as a return to the customer concerned.
The Court admitted the extrajudicial declaration of the defendant, the fraudulent bank slips and the certified copy of the draft return as proof.
Judge Bogoro postponed the matter until June 6, 2025, by trial and ordered that Ufayo was sent to the Ikoyi prison waiting for a sentence.
