The High Federal Court, Abuja, on Monday, rejected a question from the Federal Government to ensure that Kogi’s central senator, Natasha Akpoti-Auduaghan, arrested for not having appeared for the beginning of his process for defamation.
The federal government, through the office of the Prosecutor General of the Federation and the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi (San), had presented criminal accusations against Natasha for an alleged conspiracy to assassinate it.
Filed before the Court, the accusations derive from Natasha observations took on when he participated in Politics TODAY, a live program on the television of the channels, on April 3, 2025.
Marked FCT/HC/CR/297/2025, the accusation referred to the accusation of Natasha of a plot to kill it during a live broadcast on the television policy of the channels, broadcast on April 3, 2025.
During the aforementioned interview, Natasha would have accused the president of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, and the former governor of the State of Kogi, Yahaya Bello, of a plot to murder.
In counting one, the federal government has accused Natasha of “making known or having reason to believe that this charge will damage the reputation of a person”, citing section 391 of the law of the Criminal Code, Cap 89, laws of the Federation, 1990.
The crime, according to the accusation, is punishable pursuant to section 392 of the same law.
The accusations arrived among the accusations of the accusations of Natasha of sexual harassment against Akpabio.
The tumult to the Plenary Senate on February 20 arose when a dispute on seats agreements led to an exchange between Natasha and Akpabio. The confusion began after Kogi’s senator expressed his regret for changing his place.
Natasha had accused the president of the Senate of persistent sexual harassment. He said that Akpabio’s hostility against him derives from his refusal to entertain them.
“My refusal to give in to its consistent progress, both inside and outside the country, is the reason behind the victimization that it is related to the Senate. It all started on December 8, 2023, which was a day before her birthday and my birthday; we are birthday companions”, said, a statement, that the President of the Senate has constantly denied.
Natasha was suspended on March 6 for six months due to alleged bad conduct and violation of the rules of the Senate. His suspension includes the withdrawal of his salary, the security details, the blocked access to the premises of the National Assembly and identification as a senator.
The government is pursuing Natasha on behalf of the President of the Senate Godswill Akpabio and the former governor of Kogi, Yahaya Bello.
In Monday’s procedure, the prosecutor, David Kaswe, told the Court that the matter was for the Arraignment but that the defendant was not in court. The prosecutor told the Court that he had served for the accusation of the accused consultant, which meant that the defendant was well aware of the matter.
Therefore, he asked the court for a mandate of a bench to be issued against the accused for not having appeared in court despite being aware of the accusation against her.
“It was this morning that we were able to serve the defendant through his lawyer, but the defendant is not in court. Therefore, it means that the defendant is aware of this matter, but he decided not to appear in court. In light of this, I apply that a bench mandate is issued against her for the inability to attend the court to take his appeal in this criminal position,” said Kaswe.
The accused consultant, Jacob Usman (San), told the Court that he had found the application of the strange and non -surface accusation.
In his sentence, judge Musa Urar eliminated the application.
