Judge Maryanne Anenih from the High Court of the Federal Capital Region (FCT) said on Thursday that the international passport of the former Governor of Kogi State, Yahaya Bello, was not in detention.
The judge stated this at the hearing that was continued on the trial of the former governor for alleged fraud.
The Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC) charged Bello for alleged N110 billion fraud.
The former governor was charged with Umar Oricha and Abdulsalami Hudu on the accusation of fraud 16-calculation on November 27, 2024.
In the trial on Thursday, the judge argued that the court would consider a request for the exemption of the defendant’s journey document if he was in detention.
He revealed that the passport was with the Federal High Court, Abuja.

Judges Anenih notes that the court can consider the submission of advice if the international passport has been owned and declare the application incompetent.
He clarified that the guarantee requirements given to the defendant required him to submit his international passport or a written statement if there was another court.
“The condition of the guarantee directs the defendant to release his passport immediately after being released by the Federal High Court, where he faced separate accusations.
“International passports cannot be in two places at the same time; the court is not in a position to speculate if he has two passports,” because this fact was not presented before the court, “he said.
After the verdict, judges anentih postponed the problem until 8 October.
