After 15 years of dying, the famous presidential president of the Enugu hotel is gorgliando again, thanks to the vision of Gov Peter Mbah. Chuks Nweze reports that since it was reopened, the awards have spilled for the governor.
Thursday 21 August 2025, the story was made in the state of Enugu while Gov Peter Ndubisi Mbah revealed the presidential team of rehabilitated, revitalized and rejuvenated hotels, Enugu who had gone in a coma for 15 years, having been inhabited by rodents and a decrepit for marijuana smokers.
After many years of presidency of the abandonment hotel that was the pride of Eastern Nigeria is standing in dignity and imposing again. This is because the Pragmatic Governor, Peter Mbah, transmitted his research light on the development on the building that had been decaying since the time of the former governor Chimaroke Nnamani, whose instead of reviving him, allowed him to deteriorate.
Abandonment by the previous administrations
The successor of Nnamani, Sullivan Chime, instead of visiting the hotel, would have tried to sell it to the best bidder. The agreement was wrapped in secret until his successor, the former governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi entered the scene. Ugwuanyi, like his predecessors, did not evoke the political will to turn the hotel, but allowed him to decay and in -depth negligence.
So it was something of joy that Gov Mbah came and he promised to bring Enugu back to his golden age of Boom and Gloria. He promised in the days of his campaign more than two years ago to shoot abandoned government projects such as Niger Gas, Oil Palm, Sunrise Frouring Mills, International Conference Center (ICC) and the President of the Hotel.
Faithful to his declaration declared a promise to bring Enugu to the economic boom, today, the many years of detailed hotel presidential elections wear a new look and ready to receive tourists and people who would have used the rooms for socio-economic functions and political gatherings.
In precise terms, nobody knows how much it costs to the state government to relaunch the hotel, but it could be seen that billions of Naira have entered its rehabilitation. Although at the official presentation last Thursday, there have still been touches to make the hotel practicable and habitable. Gov Mbah, who has shown that he is in a hurry to develop the state, considered it appropriate to reveal it, despite the completion almost.
Gov Mbah speaking to the presentation
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Gov Mbah described the 62 -year -old building built during the reign of the deceased dr. Michael Okpara, then Premier of Eastern Nigeria as a return home for history.
Mbah, who performed the same unveiling, exalted the foresight of the former premier but regretted that the pride monument had marked himself in the last 15 years, explaining that the awakening of the hotel presidency was in line with his campaign promise to recover the activities dying of Enugu and also grow the economy of the state seven times.
“Sixty -two years ago, our ancestors under the visionary leadership of Dr. Michael Okpara have built this point of reference as a symbol of resilience, elegance and enterprise of the eastern region.
“Over the decades, time and abandonment have obscured that light. For about 15 years, this glorious building has been an affront to our pride as something contrary to what we represent.
“We have entered office with a strong commitment: to recover what belongs to our people, convert the dormant activities into productive activities; transform liabilities into growth engines.
“That’s why this presentation is more than opening the doors of a hotel; it is the reopening of Enugu’s trust. It is a tangible sign that when we say that Enugu is open to the business, we mean business.
“This hotel is a strategic qualifying factor of our growth plan, which includes the ambitious goal to grow the ENGUG economy from seven times to at least $ 30 billion and to obtain a zero percent poverty game rate,” he said.
Mbah observed that the standards for the renewal of the hotel were truly world class, because his administration, he said, insisted on it so that when Enugu says “welcome” to his investors, the infrastructure of hospitality would have spoken with the same credibility as state policies.
“Our ecosystem of hospitality is now simply stimulating: the international conference center of 5,000 seats (ICC) now anchors the ambitions of the Enugu conference; the 5 -star adjacent, 345 ICT hotel rooms under construction would have offered great events of events, which have made a great events of events, a large event, a great events, a great event, a great event, a great event, a great event, a great event, a great event. Events, a great events, a great events of events, a great events, a events, a great event, a great event, an event events, a great event, a Hom event.
“None of this is an extravagant project; they are connecting points on a large canvas. These assets are crucial for our goal of welcoming up to three million annual tourist visits and making Enugu the conference capital of Africa.
“The economic value is already visible. This hotel alone supports hundreds of direct works, culinary teams and events, engineering, landscape, suppliers and many other opportunities.
“Every day at the conference, book our taxis and buses in methane; each family on visit discovers our art, our music, our cuisine and our warmth.
“And the signal for investors is even bigger: when the government shows that it can recover activities, correct the foundations and protect investments, the private capital follows. That’s why you see impetus through other dying activities such as Uppl, Sunrise Froury Mill, Nigergas; International Conference Center and a group of others,” he added.
He thanked the managers and the dealer of the reconstructed hotel, Amber Hospitality, for believing in Enugu’s potential.
He said that “they bring an enviable pedigree on board, earned through the efficient efficiency of about 12 successful brands in the hospitality sector”.
He also praised the contractors, Dilworth, for their attention to detail, as well as the subsequent commissioners for the works and infrastructures and their counterpart of culture and tourism to work to carry out the project.
The governor, from the way he enhanced the hotel renewal, showed his zeal to ensure that Enugu under his exponential guard witnesses in economics, education, health and even aesthetic atmosphere as state capital.
A message of good will
He was unable to campaign for a second term in office, but the former deputy governor of Sullivan Chime, Dr. Domenica Onyebuchi made the trumpet for him.
In addition to greeting Mbah for the resuscitation of the hotel presidency, Onyebuchi praised him for other praised projects such as the 260 intelligent green schools, the International Conference Center, as well as the launch of air transport, the Engong Air. “When we were embarking Ibom Air, I was imagining when Enugu would have had his airline, but today Gov Mbah did it,” he enhanced.
The former deputy governor, while praising the governor said he had laughed dead projects.
“Your mantra says that tomorrow is here, but today you resurrected yesterday,” he said.
The commissioner’s appreciation show
In his speech on the occasion, the commissioner for culture and tourism, Dame Ugochi Madueke, while exalting Mbah’s leadership, said: “The silence was broken; the lights are on and never lose weight again; the doors are open to never close again and the spirit of Enugu has returned, stronger and brighter”.
He observed that the rehabilitated hotel added the tourist attraction in the state, underlining that the hotel would have created about 100 jobs for young people in the state.
Real appreciation
President Enugu State Traditional Guellers Council Hrh Igwe Samuel Asau, could not hide his joy that a hotel dead so far is come to life. He praised the work rate of the governor, who had commissioned Enugu Air, five transport terminals, 100 CNG buses and now the hotel presidency reconstructed in succession in a month.
“If you are not tired of commissioning projects, we would not be tired of going out. We have never seen it in this way. Your leadership in the state of Enugu is legendary and monumental. There is no vacant place in the Leoni building in 2027,” he assured.
Excitement galore
The president of Enugu North Lga, dr. Ibenaku Onoh has acclaimed the governor’s transformative leadership, ensuring it the continuous support of the people for his administration.
The way in which several cultural companies showed their trade at the presentation ceremony showed that they were really happy that Enugu, like a sleeping giant, is waking up again under Gov Mbah’s skilled leadership.
Several groups of young people and women were so happy for the business reached by the Governor Mbah who would interrup him on several occasions during his speech, to greet him by calling the names of pets. They also sang Lodi’s songs while they assured him of a transition without continuity in his second term in office in 2027.
