The explosion at the US aerial base in Japan’s Okinawa is injured in four soldiers

An explosion wounded four men in a Japanese structure for the conservation of unexploded bombs in an Air Base in the United States in Okinawa on Monday, said a fire -fighting official.

He said their condition was not critical.

The members of the self -defense forces of Japan (SDF) at the structure of the Kadena air base were trying to erase the objects in the structure to re -evaluate if they were bombs, said Akira Kamiunten, an official of the firefighters.

During this process, there was an explosion that wounded four male SDF members who were brought to the hospital, he told AFP.

Jiji Press and other local media said that none of the wounds was dangerous for life.

A spokesman for the Ministry of Defense also confirmed the news of an explosion at the Kadena air base, located on the main island of the southern region of Okinawa.

During the Second World War, Japan used Okinawa as a bearing to slow down US forces.

More than a quarter of the civilian population of the main island died in the battle of Okinawa of 1945.

The American occupation ended there only in 1972, under a mutual treaty that left the American bases in place.

Today Okinawa contains 70 % of the land used for the US bases in Japan and more than half the presence of US troops.
